3 Signs You Should See The Dentist

Dentist Blog

It is important to know when you should go to the dentist, just like you should know when to go see your regular doctor. It is important to see your dentist every six months for a cleaning and check-up. However, there are also other situations that may require you to go and see your dentist, which is why it is important for you to know the signs that you need to see the dentist.

Sign #1: You Gums Are Bleeding During Regular Dental Care

When you brush your teeth, your gums should not bleed. It is not normal for your teeth to bleed on a regular basis when you brush your teeth.

If you have not been flossing for a while, your gums may bleed a little bit as you start up a flossing routine. However, after a few weeks, the bleeding should all but stop.

If your teeth are bleeding when you are brushing and flossing, you need to see your dentist. You may have gum disease, more formally known as periodontal disease. You need to treat this issue right away.

Sign #2: You Have Pain in Your Mouth

You should not experience pain on your mouth on an ongoing basis. You should not feel like your mouth is aching or throbbing for an extended period of time. Your teeth should generally not be sensitive to hot or cold temperatures. If you are having any pain or sensitivity in your mouth, don't ignore it. If the pain and sensitivity come and goes, or if it is persistent, you need to go and see your doctor. You may have gum disease, a cavity, or some other dental health-related issue.

Sign #3: Your Dental Devices Don't Feel Right

There are a variety of different dental devices or implants that one could have. You could have a filling in your mouth where a cavity was drilled out. You could have a dental implant or a dental bridge that was put in place after you lost some of your teeth, or you could have dentures. All of these implants and devices should fit your mouth comfortably. If they are causing you discomfort or pain, you need to get them checked out.

If your mouth is feeling overall sensitive or experiencing pain, or your gums are bleeding during routine dental care, you need to get in and see your dentist as soon as you can. Contact a family dentist such as Thomas Krull, DDS, PC for more information.

Understanding Dental Problems

Do you have "bad teeth"? I do. Ever since I was a kid, every checkup turns up a number of issues ranging from cavities to dental fractures. It has always been frustrating to keep my smile in decent shape, which is one of the reasons I started focusing on understanding different dental problems. I wanted to know what I was getting into when I visited the doctor, so I began focusing on learning as much as I could. I wanted to create this blog all about dentistry so that other people could find out what to expect when they head to the dentist. Check it out!
